Pleasing to the Eyes
Age has caught up with me, or rather specifically, my eyes. Having never had to wear eyeglasses before, I was stymied by the vast selection of styles and options available, which made me delay getting glasses. Certainly one of the reasons was the fear of becoming dependent on them, but the other was really my inability to commit to just one style, especially one versatile enough to suit my ever-changing sartorial moods. Robert Geller to the rescue!
Being a neophyte eyeglasses wearer, I wasn't certain about these frames when I first tried them on. But they grew on me quickly, especially after I had tried on dozens of others at various lens purveyors throughout the city. Naturally, you need something that fits your face, but it should also complement your style. For me, Robert Geller's Andreas frames rock the ideal mix of nondescript but flattering looks, with a construction that is forward yet not so trendy that they'd be out of vogue by next season. Much like Geller's clothing line, they're distinctive in a way that's not too overt at first glance, becoming more interesting upon further inspection. The rounded frames are a rather directional look right now yet still have a classic feel, and allow them to work with myriad clothing styles. The matte black plastic construction stands out ironically because they're so laid back. Every optician I brought them to commented on the quality of the frames as well as the retro-forward styling. And at $270 for the glasses, they're an investment that is as easy on the wallet as they are to look at... and look through. Nomad in Canada has this shape in several different variations, and you can get them for CAD $255 here. Get the sunglasses version from Stels here.
