It's Time For Color
Once upon a time, screensavers ruled your desktop. Ranging from the fun and cutesy to the abstract and biomorphic, screensavers were created to prevent monitor wear and tear, especially from getting images burned on the screen (like the image of male model David Gandy that got burned into my desktop because I switched off my sleep and screensaver mode. But that's a story for another time). My go-to screensaver for years has been the Fliqlo retro flip clock, one of the first things I ever blogged about, but London-based designer Jack Hughes has come up with a geek chic contender that just might rival my old fave for... wait for it... screen time.
The Colour Clock visualizes time as a six digit numeral, showing you the exact hour, minutes and seconds of that moment. But here's the geeky part: as web designers know, RGB color values are denoted by 6 digit hexadecimal values, providing the perfect visual equivalents for every single moment by changing the entire screen background to the corresponding color. You can actually just use the screensaver directly from your web browser by logging on to the site then clicking on the full-screen icon on the top right, allowing it to take over your desktop. Plus, if you click on the button below the time the screensaver displays the hex name. Simple, and simply genius. Via the sharp-eyeed minimalist eyes of Minimalissimo. Mac users can download it for free here.
