Standard Issue
The Koi K:2 Chair isn't anything new, having been around for about a decade. But as a relatively under-the-radar design by an English furniture company, it's definitely an unsung design hero. Evoking a Cherner or Arne Jacobsen ant chair, yet possessing the fluidity of a Paul Kjaerholm design, it's sinuous leather seat is offset is by an almost industrial tripod wire base in a way that makes it both familiar yet completely unique. I first spotted them at Modern Age and have been in love with them ever since, and I still look at my K:2 chair in admiration to this day. Well, now all you visitors to NYC can see and sit yourselves in a K:2 if you book yourselves a room at the hip new Standard hotel in the Meatpacking District. Each room is apparently kitted out with one of these Koi beauties, to cater to your high seating and aesthetic...ahem... standards. To find out more about the Koi range, go to koidesign.co.uk. The Standard is taking preview bookings at their NY hotel on their website here.
